Illinois Historic Preservation Agency

IHPA helps determine which Illinois buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Their staff reviews construction projects that might affect cultural resources and administer a tax incentive program for rehabilitation of historic buildings. Staff also can help communities turn their historic buildings into an economic asset.

Money to support historic preservation is available in the form of low-cost loans, tax incentives and grants. This aid can come from federal, state or local government and from private organizations. Eligibility and application requirements vary according to the goals of each program.

Most grant programs apply to public agencies and non-profit groups.  Some private projects can be considered as well as funding is available.
