Founders Hall Renovation Improves Safety & Efficiency
Farnsworth Group is providing LEED v2009 enhanced commissioning of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building envelope systems for this major renovation.
Founders Hall, a 4-story, 127,700 SF building opened in 1976, is one of six buildings on the SIUE campus that will be recapitalized. While the building has been adequately maintained, the primary building electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems and exterior windows are original, and the building was not designed to current life safety, energy, and seismic codes.
Commissioning activities include existing condition analysis, Owner’s Project Requirements development, Basis of Design review, design reviews, controls coordination, commissioning specs, submittal reviews, pre-functional checklists, construction site visits / meetings, training program review, test and balance verification, functional performance testing, and seasonal / warranty reviews.
Construction will be completed in two phases, and the scope includes replacement of the electrical, telecommunications, plumbing, mechanical and window systems. Fire alarm systems will also be replaced and include emergency notification. Fire protection systems will be replaced and expanded. The building structural system will be upgraded. A storm shelter will be developed in the lower level of the building.
