Capacity Needs Lead to New Facility
When Kirchner Block & Brick decided they needed additional production capacity, they turned to Farnsworth Group to provide civil and structural engineering services.
Kirchner chose a 15-acre parcel in St. Louis County, Missouri. This parcel allows Kirchner to produce and store adequate materials to meet the growing demand. Upon demolition of the existing industrial plant building on the site, a new 53,000 SF manufacturing facility was constructed consisting of a metal building with a 40-foot height for new equipment. In addition, six aggregate silos were constructed, fed via a conveyor system and material storage bins. From the silos, the materials are sent to three large vertical mixers and then to the product molds.
On-site storage of new product palettes includes nearly 10 acres of flat aggregate surface accessed by paved roads. Special emphasis was placed on stormwater runoff control and utilizing existing dry storage ponds which are part of the city's stormwater control system.
Services provided: civil engineering, hydraulic analysis, and all structural engineering.
