Historic Renewal: Georgia State University's Innovative Student Success Institute
In collaboration with critical subconsultant Epsten Group, Farnsworth Group oversees comprehensive building commissioning services for the renovation of the 25-27 Auburn Avenue building in Atlanta. This transformation is set to house Georgia State University's innovative National Institute for Student Success, centralizing essential student-facing services previously scattered across the campus.
Initially constructed in two phases in 1907 and 1922, this 74,000 SF building, now vacant, will undergo a complete overhaul. The renovation scope includes interior demolition and refurbishment, featuring new finishes upgraded mechanical, electrical, plumbing, roofing, and conveying systems. Upon completion, the building will serve as a 'one-stop-shop' for students, offering student space, mock interview rooms, meeting areas, classrooms, and staff offices.
This project highlights the practical sustainability expertise of both firms. Initially slated for demolition in favor of a parking structure, the building was rescued through a grassroots initiative and secured private funding for adaptive reuse. Our commissioning focus aligns with preserving the original historic aesthetics while ensuring top-notch envelope performance.
