Pioneer Prairie Wind Farm in LeRoy, Minnesota
The 400-plus MW Pioneer Prairie Wind Farm project is the largest building to date that Farnsworth Group has completed for Horizon. Farnsworth Group provided site and facility design services, including architecture, interior design, and MEP engineering for the 14,000 SF Operations and Maintenance facility located within the city of LeRoy, Minnesota. The building included storage areas for turbine parts and tools, a crew room, a break room, a storm shelter, indoor parking for the maintenance vehicles, and offices for both Horizon operations/development staff and the turbine maintenance staff. Although LEED certification was not pursued, building materials specified for the interior were selected based on sustainable properties. Site improvements included parking, circulation and accessibility.
Morton Buildings, Inc. provided the building shell and general contracting. The project was completed on an aggressive schedule with occupancy in November 2008.
