Redevelopment of Cal-Sag Channel to Provide Multiple Community Benefits
Farnsworth Group has been working closely with the Village of Crestwood, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD), and private developers toward redevelopment of a 20-acre vacant parcel of urban land along the Cal Sag Channel in Crestwood.
Utilizing the MWRD’s Watershed Management Ordinance, Farnsworth Group has performed detailed HEC-HMS hydrologic modeling to identify the storage and release requirements to provide regional detention for the future commercial and retail development of the property, providing economic stability, tax revenue and jobs to the Village of Crestwood. The Village will construct and lease the 1.2-acre basin on a publicly leased 3.5-acre parcel dedicated for the regional basin, a surrounding park, and a future veterans memorial. The sizing, design and construction of the regional basin will make the remainder of the parcel development-ready, with some sub-parcels under preliminary design and lease negotiation at this time. Farnsworth Group services include stormwater modeling and design, detention design, sustainable/green infrastructure, permitting and landscape architecture. Grant assistance is being sought and when complete the public-private partnership is expected to provide multiple community benefits including economic, recreational, aesthetic and stormwater control.
